There are mainly 4 types of visa-free entry policies in mainland China: unilateral visa-free policy, 240-hour visa-free transit policy, mutual visa-free policy, and Hainan visa-free policy.


 Types of Visa-Free Entry in China

1. Unilateral Visa-Free Policy (38 Countries)

China grants 30-day visa-free access to citizens from 38 countries, including:.

  • Europe (32 countries): France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Switzerland, Netherlands, Ireland, Poland, Denmark, Portugal, Greece, Finland, Norway, Iceland, Latvia, etc.
  • Asia (3 countries): Malaysia, South Korea, Japan.
  • Oceania (2 countries): Australia, New Zealand.

Travelers from these countries can stay in China for up to 30 days without a visa.

2. Mutual Visa-Free Agreements (25 Countries)

China has signed mutual visa-free agreements with 25 countries, allowing for stays of up to 30 days. This includes:

  • Asia (6 countries): Thailand, Singapore, Maldives, Kazakhstan, Armenia, Georgia.
  • Europe (5 countries): Serbia, Belarus, Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, San Marino.
  • Caribbean (4 countries): Bahamas, Antigua and Barbuda, Barbados, Grenada.
  • Oceania (3 countries): Fiji, Tonga, Solomon Islands.
  • Middle East (3 countries): UAE, Qatar, Mauritius.
  • South America (3 countries): Dominica, Ecuador, Suriname.
  • Africa (1 country): Seychelles.

3. 240-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Travelers from eligible countries can transit through major Chinese cities (e.g., Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou) for up to 240 hours (6 days) without a visa.

4. Hainan Visa-Free Policy (59 Countries)

Since May 1, 2018, China has granted 59 countries visa-free access to Hainan for up to 30 days. Visitors must remain in Hainan and cannot travel to mainland China without obtaining a visa.

Countries covered include the U.S., Canada, U.K., France, Germany, Italy, Norway, Finland, Poland, Australia, New Zealand, and more.
